Philanthropy
Shooting (Pool) For A Good Cause!
November 2nd, 2000
Once again, Five Star Productions is lending a helping hand to
The Florida Panthers Alumni Association's Annual Pool Tournament.
The event, held Thursday, November 2nd, 2000 at Gatsby's in Boca
Raton benefits Florida Panthers Charities. As in past years, we
sponsor two teams of players, in addition to helping create the
event's program.
Five Star President, Scott Woolley, is on The Florida panthers
Alumni Board which raises money for children in need.
Footy's Wing Ding
The 2000 Wing Ding has proven to be as addictive
to Five Star as chicken wings are to most of us. Once we started
to get involved in this Philanthropy weekend of great concerts
and tasty chicken wings - we couldn't stop!
Working with local DJ, Footy of Y-100 we've learned a great deal
about this event which has quietly grown into one of South Florida's
largest charity events, not to mention a celebrity favorite, and
benefits Here's Help. So how did we get involved?
Well, Footy had this great idea of making the Wing Ding a world
wide affair. Thanks to technological advances with the Internet
and his good friends at Five Star, this became a reality. We were
instrumental in not only covering the entire weekend event with
several camera crews, producers, directors and an audio and video
remote truck, but also producing videos and animated graphics
to keep fans entertained between live acts. Then we edited the
live event footage into videos that can be watched on the Wing
Ding's web site at www.wingding.cc. While we were becoming involved
with the event's web site, we also lend a creative hand in giving
the web site a face lift.
That's quite a mouthful! But we savored every minute of it and
are thankful to have become involved.
Unlike chicken wings, this event is actually good for you and
benefits those in need. See you next year!
A Tribute to Dan Marino
August 23rd, 2000
More than 60,000 Dol-fans and friends came to Pro Player Stadium
in Miami to wish a final farewell to one of football's greatest
heroes: Dan Marino. The event, dubbed A Tribute to Dan Marino,
was the largest event of its kind in South Florida history, was
marked the largest tribute to a sports figure ever, and raised
$104,000 for charity.
It was a memorable evening for all, and Dan Marino and his family
were overwhelmed by all that was done in his honor: There were
emotional videos of Dan's amazing career and his tremendous community
involvement. There was the Class of 83 reunion, Dolphins Alumni
presentation, and a special performance by Hootie and the Blowfish
- including vocals by Dan. The evening was capped off with an
impressive fireworks display.
M.C. Tony Segreto introduced some of Dan's close colleagues and
mentors, including Coach Shula, Terry Bradshaw, Dolphins President
Eddie Jones, Dolphins Owner Wayne Huizenga, Y-100 DJ Footy,
John Elway, Jim Kelly, Ken O'Brien, Todd Blackledge, Tony Eason,
OJ
McDuffie, Mark Clayton, Mark Duper, Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor,
and numerous others who shared special moments, reminisced,
and
even pulled a few humorous surprises.
Behind the scenes was Five Star Productions, who was hired by
Huizenga Holdings and the Miami Dolphins to not only provide
one
and one-half hours of video production and awesome 3-D, 2D and
print graphics, but also to co-produce and direct the live event!
During the three months of planning, creating, shooting, editing,
rehearsing and producing, almost all associates became involved
with the event.
Zo's Summer Groove 4
July 14 - 16, 2000
South Florida is getting its Groove back - and Five Star is stepping
right in! It's that time of year again . . . Zo's Summer Groove
is returning to Miami on July 14 - 16, 2000 for its 4th consecutive
year!
The annual charity event, invented, organized, and hosted by Miami
Heat's Alonzo "Zo" Mourning, is heavily into its planning stages,
and once again, Five Star Productions will be there to do its
part.
As in the past, Five Star will be responsible for all video footage
taken at the event, in addition to producing the 30 minute TV
Special which is broadcast to sports fans nationally and will
be streamed live on the Internet.
Zo's Summer Groove is a celebration of the spirit and culture
of South Florida. Its activities include the ZSG Golf Classic,
the "Evening in Paradise" ball, the "MegaGroove Concert," "Zo's
Block Party" and the event will conclude with the "All Star Basketball
Game" featuring some of the NBA's hottest players. The event benefits
two significant charities through the Alonzo Mourning Charitable
Fund of the Dade Community Foundation: The Children's Home Society
of South Florida and 100 Black Men of South Florida. Come join
us for a weekend of sun, fun, and groove - all for a good cause!
